Welcome to Worcestershire Linux Users Group
The Community PDF Print E-mail

Worcestershire linux users group is a free to join, free to attend group, where like minded free software and open source advocates meet.

We welcome you as a novice, expert, home, academic or professional user to enjoy our regular social and technical meetings and benefit from on-line help, advice and discussion.

We hope to build a large, diverse group, including people using Linux at work in a professional capacity as well as those who enjoy using Linux at home. Everyone is welcome to join our group. From those who are not users but are interested in Linux and Open Source software, Linux beginners all the way through to experts

Activities

As a newly re-started Linux user group, we currently have no scheduled events. As we grow, we will meet regularly, hopefully having regular social and technical events where we can all get together. We also hope to get ourselves out into the community to promote Linux / FOSS at public events in the area.

You can get involved right now by logging in and signing up to the mailing list or chatting with us in the ##worcslug channel on irc.freenode.net

Other Local Lugs

There are other local Linux User groups in the area which you may be interested in joining. Worcslug hopes to meet up with these other groups regularly. These groups may be easier for you to attend meetings so you should check them out as well:

  • Bash / sed / tr / Linux word occurrence counter and analyzer (e.g. for song lyrics)
With these commands you can analyze a text file. It will count all the occurrences of all words and put out the stats. It is usefull for song lyrics, books, notes and everything. It helps me analyze my writing style, which words do I use more often, where are my spelling errors and such. It is also nice to win an argument against someone over a dragonforce song. This example will use lyrics as example, but it is applicable to all text files. Examples included (A NaNoWriMo book by Fabian Scherschel from the Linux Outlaws)
